Building429Quite often the gifts that God gives believers take on an added potency when simmered in the sauce of experience. Such is the case with Building 429, the talented pop/rock outfit that topped the charts in 2004 with “Glory Defined” and proceeded to build one of the Christian music community’s most impactful ministries.

Now after nearly a decade in the national spotlight, Building 429 has teamed with Provident Music Group for their fifth album, Listen To The Sound. “It really is the overflow of the life that we’ve lived over the last two or three years, especially this past year,” says lead vocalist Jason Roy. “I’m a worship pastor now and that has been a huge part of the lyrical content of this record. It’s about the lives that I’ve been involved with. This really does come from a much more honest place.”

BANQUET WITH GRAHAM KENDRICK

Graham KendrickThese days the sound of worship is increasingly diverse. Old values are being re-embraced while new flavours and styles are connecting with whatever is fresh within the life of the Church. Among all this talk of modern hymns and fathers and sons there is a name that is never far from the conversation: Graham Kendrick. And with his new album (which also happens to be his thirtieth) - Banquet - the sound of worship grows even stronger.

Like all banquets, this one comes with an invitation to join in, as Graham explains: “Banquet seemed an apt title for a collection of songs for the worshipping community. Here are songs about who we worship and what we believe, about loving one another, serving, forgiving and blessing, coming to give rather than to get, about standing together as one to fight to make a difference and going out to offer daily work as worship.”

He’s right, too. These twelve songs combine to offer a breadth and depth that is deeply satisfying. From songs of intercession to calls to action, retellings of biblical events to classic hymns re-imagined: Banquet is a feast, spiritually and musically nutritious from start to finish.

STUART TOWNEND: THE JOURNEY GOES ON

Stuart TownendEight studio albums in and Stuart Townend shows no sign of settling for neutral. In fact, on The Journey it is clear the man who has given the church such enduring classics as ‘In Christ Alone’ and ‘How Deep The Father’s Love’ has found a new gear, a truly personal sound and fresh wisdom to share with us all.

Stuart Townend has long been regarded as one of the most gifted songwriters of his day, and it has never been hard to imagine that we are the first of many generations to draw inspiration and strength from the songs of substance as word and worship collide. The Journey only adds to that.

From the opening ‘O My Soul’, with its filmscore banjo, supersized proportions and lyrics that stir feet and heart to rise in worship, Stuart is on rare form. Lyrics - as ever - are inclusive, meticulous and spiritually nutritious without ever compromising on accessibility. The inclusion of young folk artist Ruth Notman adds a fresh power to songs like ‘The Man Who Calmed The Sea’ and ‘Simple Living’, making perfect sonic sense.

"Stuart’s found his sound,"

LOFPRYSING IN JOU SELGROEP...

BRIAN DOERKSEN TAKES WORSHIP BACK TO LEVEL GROUND

Level GroundsWhat’s the usual model for corporate or congregational worship? A stage filled with musicians, singers, instruments, soundboards, monitors. And below them the congregation.

Level Ground breaks that mold and tries something different. The evening of the live recording, the stage was completely empty. Instead worship leader and songwriter Brian Doerksen and his band joined worshipers on the church floor, all lifting the name of Jesus from a place of level ground.

“I’ve been to many recordings in my 20 years at Integrity Music, but I have never experienced anything like this evening of worship,” says Robert Brenner of Integrity Music. “We were all standing together, musicians amidst the worshipers and the powerful exchange that occurred between one another and with our God were transformational.

"We found the experience so transformational that we released it on a DVD with a full-length video that beautifully captures this unique experience. It includes 10 real life stories of lives transformed by the power of God, behind-the-scenes narrative and interviews with Brian Doerksen, and a bonus cut of a new version of Broken and Beautiful."

Brian is well loved for his songs such as Come Now Is The Time To Worship, Refiner’s Fire, You Shine, and more. Level Ground features new songs co-written by Brian including The Jesus Way, Lifelong Passion, and Altar of Love.

“I pray this album opens up an entirely new model of worship that takes the focus off the leader and places it directly on our God,” says Robert.

“This project began as a simple idea…"
